MEXICO CITY – Six Flags announced that between this year and 2013, they will open two new festival-themed amusement parks in Mexico. On top of that, they will also feature a new roller coaster ride in the Spring of 2013 and it will be called “The Joker”. This new attraction will extend Six Flags’ relationship with the DC Comics.
The first park will be known as “Festival of Terror” and will open in October. It will include attractions like The House of Vampires. On the other hand, “Christmas in the Park” will be inaugurated in December and will have Christmas shows and even artificial snow falling in various sections of the park.
“For competitive reasons we do not disclose the amount invested in each of our new shows. What I can say is, we spent about 9% of our annual profits to make sure that the new shows will get the publicity they deserve.” Said Six Flags CEO and company president Jim Reid-Anderson.
He said that for every business park is a five-year plan which includes the development of new attractions.
“We considered whether to open other parks in Latin America. It’s still under discussion and we will make announcements when its already in the works.” Reid-Anderson said in an interview.
According to the latest report from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the amusement park in Mexico received more than 2.2 million visits in 2011, 10% more than 2010.
Reino Aventura opened in 1982 but was acquired by Premier Parks in 1999 for a price close to $60 million. The park reopened under the name of Six Flags Mexico in April 19, 2000.
Some of its main attractions are: “Superman: The Last Escape”, “Kilahuea Madness”, “Batman The Ride”, “Medusa”, and “The Dark Knight Coaster”.
The fair Hopi Hari in Sao Paulo, Brazil, received 1.85 million visitors in 2011, followed by La Feria de Chapultepec, whose audience reached 1.50 million visitors in the same period of time.
