OLYMPIA  - Facebook users in the state of Washington will have something more to brag about to their friends on the internet – they can register to vote for the November elections in the United States just by logging into their account.

Last Tuesday, the office of the Secretary of State released a statement wherein they announced that there will be an application on the Washington State Elections page wherein people can register to vote, give “like”, and send recommendations to friends. The function is expected to be released early next week.

The state, Facebook Inc., and Microsoft Corp. have been working on the project since late last year.

Should you chose to use this function, you must authorize Facebook to access information on your account. The information that will be gathered will be used to fill in your name and date of birth on the registration form in advance. You should also have your  driver’s license number or state ID at hand to continue with registration.

If you’re worried about your privacy, don’t be. Officials have reiterated that any type of information gathered from your Facebook account will be confidential. Additionally, they have also assured that only essential information for the online voter’s registration process will be gathered and stored on their database.
